Redundancy protection during pregnancy

💡 ProBonOokulli Tip: Redundancy Protection During Pregnancy (UK) Starting 6 April 2024, pregnant employees have stronger legal protection if facing redundancy.
👶 When Does Protection Start?
📌 From the moment you inform your employer that you're pregnant.
📌 It lasts 18 months from the date your baby is born.
📌 If you don’t give an exact birth date, it lasts 18 months from the expected week.
🛑 What If There’s a Miscarriage or Stillbirth?
💔 If before 24 weeks: protection lasts 2 weeks from end of pregnancy.
💔 If after 24 weeks (stillbirth): protection still lasts 18 months from date of birth.
🏢 Why It Matters:
During this time, you must be offered any suitable alternative roles ahead of other employees if redundancies happen.
📜 Employers who don’t follow this law?
It could be automatically unfair dismissal, and potentially pregnancy or maternity discrimination.
💬 Know your rights. If you're expecting, grieving, or navigating new parenthood, the law is on your side. And we're here to help you see that in your contract.
